A Purposeful Destination

destination

Spring Break is coming up and for many that may mean the opportunity for a road trip.  A road trip on its own is great fun, a chance to see the landscape and get a feel for just where you are on this great earth.  But there is something special about a road trip when you have the opportunity to travel with others.

Imagine a group hitting the road for a get-away.  You gather at a location to depart.  Given the size of the group you are in multiple vehicles but you travel together with a shared intent of getting to your destination.  There is something powerful and uniting about this shared objective.  With excitement and anticipation, you and your friends head out, traveling together in a convoy.

The word convoy means to travel with and protect (someone or something).  There is something unique about the feeling of togetherness created by travelling together and it is not limited to just road trips.  As humans we are designed to be social creatures and that is a powerful attribute a leader can call on in building a business.  Most of us yearn to be part of something that is bigger than ourselves; part of something with a greater purpose than just our day-to-day work.

Uniting a team around a shared vision (destination) provides this sense of purpose and belonging.

To understand the importance of this, imagine that you and your friends decide on the destination of your road trip.  Instead of heading out together you depart at different times and take different routes.  You end up in the same place, yet the journey is completely different, and you’ve missed out on that shared sense of purpose.  What is required of a leader is to unite the team; to share the vision and create that greater sense of purpose as you travel together.

It is the journey that makes all the difference!

Teams can create this sense of purpose and a shared vision through something as simple as a road trip.  Multiply the power of this with a visioning day and team building exercises at your destination of choice.  Contact me for ideas and facilitation of the process at 713-705-3815 or barbara@acceluspartners.com.
